DESCRIPTION
In 2020–21, it’s critically important to build cultures and systems that promote authentic collaboration and growth, allow for healthy exchange of feedback, and support meaningful conversation about classroom observation and best practices. Schools’ shift to remote and hybrid learning modes -- and the nature of working in socially-distanced school communities -- has complicated the practice of classroom observation. In these unfamiliar classroom contexts, educators are evolving the skills and competencies for delivering effective teaching and offering meaningful feedback. This course will guide participants in developing practices that work in multiple modes (on-campus, hybrid, and online) and for complex situations, ultimately helping participants plan for a more mission- and values-aligned approach to observation.
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Deepen understanding about how to foster a school culture that supports effective observation and meaningful growth.
- Understand how “observation” in the online and hybrid space is different from typical classroom observations
- Prepare for pre- and post-observation communications and conversations that support a growth orientation in teachers and administrators
- Devise a strategy and tactical plan for engaging in observations in multiple modes for the 2020–2021 school year
