Register
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The AP® Calculus AB course is a standard course in the calculus of a single variable. The course focuses on the understanding of differential and integral calculus through varied methods and applications. Students learn conceptual reasoning as well as presenting a solution algebraically, geometrically, numerically, or verbally. Students learn not only how to develop a clear understanding of the concepts, but also how to apply them in real-world situations. By the end of the course, students will be able to read and interpret graphical data accurately, use words to explain their reasoning and provide context for final answers, and understand how they best learn online. All of the topics in the AP® Calculus AB course are covered, as well as additional topics as time permits. Major topics include limits, continuity, derivatives and applications, definite integrals and applications, and first order linear differential equations. This personalized course features discussions, reflections, and projects that will help students to master skills in an engaging way. Students not interested in preparing for the AP® Exam will be offered alternative pathways.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY

“I have been enjoying this class. I believe that my communication skills are starting to improve through the reflections and partner work.”

WHAT STUDENTS DO
Learning is an active process at One Schoolhouse. Students design, create and apply. And, they engage with classmates and connect with their teachers through discussions, video conferences, and projects. Specifically, in this class students will:
  • Set goals that drive their learning. Students reflect regularly on their growth, and meet on video chat with their online teacher to review progress towards their goals.
  • Have choice in how they learn new content and practice new skills. Students are given agency to determine the best ways for them to learn.
  • Apply what they are learning to the real world. Learning is meaningful and connects to concepts outside the classroom.
  • Practice constructive engagement in a diverse and changing world. Students interact with classmates from across the country and around the world.
  • Gain academic maturity. Online learning takes greater discipline and independence than a traditional face-to-face classroom. Teachers support students to build this skill.
