AP® Macroeconomics

Girls-Only & All-Gender Course; Prerequisite - Completion of Algebra II; Full-year course

Register
COURSE DESCRIPTION
AP® Macroeconomics introduces students to major economic issues such as basic market analysis, the causes of the cycle of economic growth and recession, the problems of inflation and unemployment, the causes and consequences of federal budget deficits, and the causes and effects of international trade imbalances and currency fluctuations. Students analyze the impact of fiscal and monetary policies as well as the debates surrounding the implementation of each. This course involves extensive reading, problem-solving exercises, online discussions, and researching and writing about contemporary macroeconomic issues. Multiple modalities are employed for content presentation so as to encourage personalization, and assessment evaluates each student’s ability to utilize skill sets related to economic decision making. Strong reading, algebra, and analytical skills are necessary for success in the course, as is strong motivation. AP® Macroeconomics develops informed, thoughtful, and globally-minded students, and the course thoroughly prepares students to take the AP® Macroeconomics Exam in the spring. This course is recommended for 11th and 12th graders.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY

“Having an online class forced me to become more responsible with my work and be more self-reliant with the material...Out of all my classes, I feel that this is preparing me the most for college because I am responsible for learning the necessary materials on my own time. It has also taught me a lot about time management and given me new study habits."

"I feel like I've definitely taken quite a bit away from this semester of macroeconomics, both directly from the course content and its application in classwork, and in terms of the things I hear or learn about the economy in the world at large. It's given me a better perspective on current events and things I've learned in my other classes and extra-curriculars"

WHAT STUDENTS DO
Learning is an active process at One Schoolhouse. Students design, create and apply. And, they engage with classmates and connect with their teachers through discussions, video conferences, and projects. Specifically, in this class students will:
  • Set goals that drive their learning. Students reflect regularly on their growth, and meet on video chat with their online teacher to review progress towards their goals.
  • Have choice in how they learn new content and practice new skills. Students are given agency to determine the best ways for them to learn.
  • Apply what they are learning to the real world. Learning is meaningful and connects to concepts outside the classroom.
  • Practice constructive engagement in a diverse and changing world. Students interact with classmates from across the country and around the world.
  • Gain academic maturity. Online learning takes greater discipline and independence than a traditional face-to-face classroom. Teachers support students to build this skill.
