2022 - 2023 Call for One Schoolhouse Student Course Faculty
One Schoolhouse teachers have an exceptionally positive outlook, strive always to see the best in every situation, tirelessly pursue justice and cultural competence, build authentic relationships online, and have a growth mindset. We value the unique perspectives, experiences, and identities of our students, and our teachers design highly personalized, inclusive, interactive courses to serve an increasingly diverse student population. The experience of teaching with One Schoolhouse often propels teachers into leadership opportunities beyond their work with us, and we expect our teachers to view this work as such. To learn more about our beliefs about teaching and learning, read our pedagogy white paper or check out our learning innovation blog.
Teachers should expect to spend time each day during the school year (see calendar here) moderating discussions, answering questions, and adjusting assignments, with an expected time commitment of 8-10 hours per week based on an average course size of 18 students. Relationships and feedback are cornerstones of students’ success. As such, we expect that teachers are able to cultivate meaningful relationships with a diverse student body, hold weekly office hours, have a 24-hour turnaround time for communications, and provide useful feedback on all assignments within five days.
All One Schoolhouse courses are refreshed and fully built out by our teachers during the summer before school opens, and reviewed in a three-year cycle. This cycle includes phases for development, reflection, evaluation, iteration, and innovation.
We believe in goal-oriented growth for students, teachers, and administrators. As such, everyone at One Schoolhouse sets annual, measurable goals that allow us to cultivate and track growth over time. For teachers, One Schoolhouse provides structure, time, and space for professional development in cutting-edge practice and uses mapping tools, timelines, and rubrics to establish and evaluate growth trajectories for both courses and teachers. In collaboration with our administrative team, growth is personalized for and by each teacher so that it is self-directed and results-oriented.
Teachers engage in work that deepens their ability to deliver competency-based, equitable, inclusive, and personalized courses. In order to do this, we are committed to hiring for and developing the competencies below.
Teachers are compensated by One Schoolhouse for creating, refreshing and/or teaching their course(s). Teacher salaries are set by the Board of Trustees. Practices and policies, including our Non-Discrimination Policy, are covered in the online interview process. For immediate questions, contact the Assistant Head of School, Corinne Dedini at corinne.dedini@oneschoolhouse.org.
