AP® English Language and Composition is designed to align the writer's purpose with the writer's use of rhetoric, with specific attention to subject, audience, reasoning, and style. Students learn to read for and write within a particular situation, making strategic writing choices based on that situation and developing their own style as they explore those of a wide range of authors, including those of their classmates. Exploring claims and evidence, students make claims about subjects and integrate evidence that supports the reasoning that justifies the claim. As we build community online, students identify positions other authors have taken and respond to opposing arguments. The rhetorical situation informs the strategic stylistic choices that writers make. This course prepares students for the AP English Language and Composition exam in May.
