New research on effective collaborative leadership and coaching strategies can underlie programming and practices that build confidence and capacity in both supervisory and supervised staff, from teachers to department chairs to divisional leadership.

Webinars

Leadership Style & Personality Traits - Jamie Estes has been researching the question does "who you are determine how you lead" with a specific focus on independent school leadership. Watch our June 16 Academic Leaders Webinar to hear how his work studies how leadership style is influenced by personality traits; and further, how those play out in the different cultures of independent schools.

Celeste Payne on Faculty Voice in Schools - A science teacher and Upper School Diversity Coordinator, Celeste is also Upper School Faculty Clerk, a position that reflects Westtown's Quaker heritage and identity. In this role Celeste serves as a kind of liaison between faculty and administration and has considerable convening and communicating authority.
Leadership Post-Covid-19 - The relationships between faculty and school administrators have been under tremendous stress during the past two school years. Leaders’ prior systems for building trusting relationships with faculty members have been tested in myriad ways. For One Schoolhouse's June 9, 2021, Academic Leaders Webinar, Sarah and Lorri Palko, facilitator of our Building Trust course, shared some lessons learned from building and facilitating the course.

Supporting Your Faculty in a Challenging Year - How will academic leaders support faculty during the coming school year? Our current systems are built for being in a shared space. What new systems do we need when we’re not able to be together to listen, share a concern or a triumph and build the relationships in our communities we need to support our students? Presented by Liz Katz, Sarah Hanawald and Peter Gow.
Celebrating & Supporting Faculty - Think through how we can celebrate the work of faculty this spring, while preparing them for the next challenge. Presented by Peter Gow, Independent Curriculum Resource Director at One Schoolhouse.
Academic Leaders Webinar: Celebrating & Supporting Faculty - Part II - A continuation of the above webinar discusses how we can celebrate the work of faculty this spring, while preparing them for the next challenge. Presented by Peter Gow, Independent Curriculum Resource Director at One Schoolhouse.
Supporting Teachers - For our Wednesday, February 17, 2021, Academic Leaders Webinar, Sarah and Peter welcomed our Director of Student Support and veteran administrator, Beta Eaton, to discuss how support systems for teachers can foster more effective student teacher relationships.
Outward-Facing Leadership - Think for a moment about the words or phrases you might use to describe a leader. Chances are a lot of the characteristics that come to mind have to do with how they interact with others or how they provide feedback. Our Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Academic Leaders Webinar was on reflection as an outward-facing leadership practice.
Building a High-Performing 1:1 Program: Learnings from The One-to-One Institute - Ubiquitous technology is now the norm, at least on paper—70% of American high schools (public, religious, charter, independent) identify as 1:1. (Whether or not they actually are is a worthy question for another discussion). This means that the mere existence of our 1:1 programs is no longer a differentiator for independent schools. Independent schools will find that some of the key factors for success hold true in our schools. Is it time to take a look at your 1:1 program? Presented by Sarah Hanawald.
Faculty Goals, Feedback and Observation - One Schoolhouse was joined by Andy Shaw, Director of Professional Learning at FolioCollaborative and facilitator of our upcoming PD course, Faculty Observation & Feedback: It's Different This Year, for our Wednesday, October 14, Academic Leaders Webinar on observation, coaching and feedback best practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shadowing Students: Your School's User Experience - Learn how Darlington School (GA) has used a comprehensive and highly intentional program of student shadowing to explore life at all levels, elementary through high school, and to understand how to better serve all students in every area. Presented by Hope Jones and Matthew Peer of Darlington School.
Planting Seeds, Growing Teacher Leaders at TMI Episcopal School - Teacher leadership is a catalyst for student growth, teacher retention, and a positive school culture. Presenters from TMI Episcopal School (TX) share models that have built community and inspired educators through the sharing of innovative and creative practices and the collaboration of public and private school teachers. Identify opportunities in your school to capitalize on faculty potential and organically create change.
