Essentials of School Business for Non-Business Administrators: Budget Meets Mission

REGISTER
Offered with the National Business Officers' Association
Offered: TBD
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Understanding school finances can inspire resourceful action on the part of all leaders charged with managing their schools. This online course is designed for those administrators who desire to be good stewards of their school’s financial resources, to be strategic in light of financial pressure, and to work more collaboratively with their leadership team around financial issues. Participants should expect to spend approximately four hours per week on this course.

Budgets are a reflection of how the schools resources are allocated to deliver on the mission of the school. How do you fulfill your mission by pulling the appropriate strategic financial levers? Learn how a financial plan can be the byproduct of the strategic thinking of the school, and not the reverse.
COURSE FORMAT
In this class, school leaders with limited experienced in financial and business functions will:
  • Learn the most important metrics that determine school financial sustainability
  • Understand financial terminology used in the business office, development, and admissions
  • Experiment with financial levers that impact fiscal stability
  • Interpret financial reports and hone in on important figures to learn how changes impact your school's program, students and other constituents
PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK
"I found this course to be very beneficial in helping me better understand the major drivers in creating a financially sustainable model within private schools. This course has helped me strive to be a visionary leader outside of the traditional role as school Administrator. I feel better prepared to do my part in helping all areas, Admissions, Advancement and the Business Office, work towards financial sustainability." -Stephanie Medcalfe, Indianapolis, Indiana
