Implementing Advanced Independent Curriculum™ Standards for Teachers + Course Certification

Course Dates Announced Soon
Register
DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for teachers who have already begun to design an advanced course that is rigorous and standards-based, yet not standardized. Participants will take a deep dive into the principles and standards of Advanced Independent Curriculum™ to understand how to define their course objectives in alignment with the standards. They’ll learn to prepare explanations of curricular elements and design decisions that illuminate how the course meets the standards at the sufficient level. These explanations will be key to writing the brief “evidence statements” needed for advanced independent curriculum course certification. Interdisciplinary interaction will be a key component for this course as participants consider the work of their colleagues to inform their own professional practice leading to practice aligning to standards in ways that elevate student agency.

Completion of the course qualifies the participant to submit one class for certification through the One Schoolhouse AIC™ Course Certification Portal. Participants have 10 weeks to complete this step, which is included in the course fees (a value of more than $400).

In this course, teachers will:
  • Take a deep dive into the Advanced Independent Curriculum™ Principles and Standards
  • Learn strategies to establish rigor in alignment with AIC™ standards
  • Practice aligning a course with the AIC™ standards
  • Submit a course for certification as an AIC™ Course (to be completed within 10 weeks of course closure)
COURSE FORMAT
Teachers will be guided through a two-week online course, which will take about four hours to complete per unit. The weeks/units of this course are asynchronous, but class-paced. There is no fixed time for participation, but assignments are due each week. Throughout the course, participants will connect and collaborate with each other through interactive media, including short videos and discussion boards. Participants will have access to the course and materials for one additional week beyond the posted end date.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS SAY
"One Schoolhouse courses take your thinking in new and unexpected directions. If you aren't energized by the time you complete a One Schoolhouse course, then you haven't opened yourself to new ideas!" Eric Walters, Marymount School of New York
