Steady in the Storm: Protecting Student Mental Health in Hybrid Learning Environments

October 26 - November 1, 2020 (access through November 6, 2020)
This course is designed for middle- and upper-school administrators including division heads, deans, residential life administrators, counseling staff, health practitioners, and chaplains.
Register
DESCRIPTION
How should we support students and protect their mental health this coming school year? What systems do we need to have in order to care for students online and in-person? This year presents unique and unprecedented challenges.

Participants will build an action plan that can allow them to implement cohesive and consistent systems to support community well-being. Schools will create metrics to identify students who are at risk for challenges in hybrid- and distance-learning environments, as well as primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention systems. In addition, the course addresses how to communicate with parents, faculty, and staff about best practices to increase connection and calm in order to support learning and wellness.

Course Outline:
  • Switching to a 2020-2021 Mindset:  What new systems do we need?
  • Primary and Secondary Prevention:  What are our students’ basic needs and warning signs?
  • Tertiary Prevention:  How does the current crisis raise the stakes for our most vulnerable students?
  • Expanding the Safety Net:  How will we support and partner with parents?
  • Supporting Faculty and Staff:  What tools do our teams need?
