Strategic Ways To Partner With One Schoolhouse
One Schoolhouse is an organization that partners with independent schools to provide innovative student learning and school operations best practices. It is comprised of a consortium of more than 140 independent schools from across the country. Our consortium schools engage with us to strategically enhance their curricular objectives and offerings. Click on the tabs below to read what our consortium school leaders have to say about their partnership with One Schoolhouse.
One Schoolhouse offers over 55 full-year courses, 6 semester courses and 8 summer courses for the 2019-2020 school year. These courses include AP and non-AP courses, courses in world languages, a computer science strand, global and cultural competency courses, and STEM courses.
"Through engaging course options for students, One Schoolhouse is expanding the understanding of what it means to be a well-rounded, engaged learner and, in the process, is enhancing school experiences in myriad ways. One Schoolhouse is truly enabling schools to meet students where they are and empowers their meaningful growth as individuals,” says Colm MacMahon, Head of School, Rippowam Cisqua School. |
One Schoolhouse develops course strands to expand your curriculum for students. In languages, we offer Latin I through AP Latin and Chinese I through AP Chinese. For those interested in computer science, we offer five courses from Introduction to Computer Science to AP Computer Science Principles and Engineering, Design & Robotics.
“What made it so fun in these courses? They are courses that I was interested in and love doing. For example, my Introduction to Computer Programming, I got to do Alice, Scratch, make my own apps. I did a research project on the the head of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer and she’s amazing and it’s super fascinating. I did something I love and the reason I succeeded was I got to use this in my everyday life. We use so many apps on our phone. We use so many different programs. And if one breaks, how are you going to solve it? I know how to solve it,” said Emily, a student at Buffalo Seminary who has taken Introduction to Computer Programming, Creating Tomorrow and is enrolled in AP Computer Science.

Elizabeth Teske, Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, discusses how Linden Hall partners with One Schoolhouse to minimize scheduling conflicts and maximize course offerings.
"As with most small schools, Linden Hall is able to offer several of our courses only once in the schedule. Having the option of completing a course online when two classes that are of strong interest to a student are scheduled at the same time enables our students to remain fully engaged in their studies rather than having to select one area over another. For example, this year, one of our girls chose to approach AP Calculus online because it allowed her to take all her other academic choices without a conflict. Partnership with One Schoolhouse has given Linden Hall a degree of freedom in scheduling and lessons in communications and responsibility for our students. Taking advantage of the offerings available online through One Schoolhouse has allowed students to plan for flexibility in their schedules that accommodates a challenging, interesting course load both on campus and online," says Elizabeth Teske, Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs at Linden Hall.

Jess Hill, Director of the Upper School at Harpeth Hall, shares how One Schoolhouse's partnership supports its academic, strategic and financial objectives by teaching some of its under-enrolled courses. To dive deeper, read "Financing Online Learning," a blog written by former One Schoolhouse CFO, Lorri Palko.
"We have relied on One Schoolhouse year after year for the best solution to the issue of offering courses, which a small number of our students want and need to complete their upper school curriculum. For example, Multivariable Calculus & Differential Equations and AP Chinese are two courses that are necessary for a student to complete a full four years in math or world language. One Schoolhouse courses are an affordable solution to the problem of providing these hard-to-fill and important courses," says Jess Hill, Director of the Upper School at Harpeth Hall. |
Jeannie Finley, Director of Academic Technology and Library Services at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, shares how her school partners with One Schoolhouse to strategically serve as a flexible department within the school. To learn more about One Schoolhouse's supplementary options, click here.
“One Schoolhouse has successfully enabled us to expand our computer science offerings. Classroom space, low enrollment, tight schedules, and teacher loads have made it very difficult for our school to add new courses. Previously, we were only able to offer introductory programming or robotics classes. Now we have a complete pathway that helps meet the needs of any student considering computer science. The courses are excellent and the students are delighted to take them. The flexibility of being able to take these elective courses during any block has really help drop additional barriers to taking these classes. The courses are an essential component of our successful computer science pathway,” says Jeannie Finley, Director of Academic Technology and Library Services at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. |
